 Caladesi Chapter DAR Presents Awards

Alyssa Knight, a senior at Dunedin High School, was recently awarded the 2009 DAR Good Citizens Award by the Caladesi Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.  Janet Nelch, Committee Chairman, presented her with a pin and a certificate.  The award is given to recognize qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in home, school and community.  Some of her achievements are: President of her Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior classes; Student Government President in her Senior year; member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Academic Team.  She has been a Public Library volunteer as well as participated in many community service projects such as Relay for Life, March of Dines, and United Way.

Cadet Lt. Iza Cainglet, a senior in Dunedin High School's Navy ROTC program, was the recipient of the 2009 ROTC Award also given by the Caladesi Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.  Nancy Holland, National Defense Chairman, presented her with a medal, certificate and Savings Bond.  Ronald Wilson, Naval Science Instructor, also spoke in her honor.  The award is given for outstanding performance in patriotism, national security, and citizenship.  Cadet Lt. Cainglet is the Executive Officer of her unit, and is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Interact Club and the Varsity Volleyball Team.  She plans to continue ROTC in college, majoring in aviation or international business.  Jacksonville University or The Citadel are her choices for college, followed by a career in the United States Navy.
