“Operation Medicine Cabinet” Pharmaceutical Take-Back Day Aims to Stop Drug Abuse and Keep a Clean Environment

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit is participating in a multi-county collaborative pharmaceutical take-back day aimed at stopping prescription drug abuse and keeping a clean environment.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 30.

Pinellas County drop off locations:
PCSO locations are:

  • -K-Mart at the Seminole Mall located at 7850 113th Street in Seminole
  • -Planet Fitness located at 30701 US 19, Palm Harbor

Operation Medicine Cabinet will give residents a chance to bring unused or expired prescriptions, controlled substances and over-the-counter medications to locations in their community for safe disposal.

Operation Medicine Cabinet is one way that the community can actively reduce prescription drug abuse-by removing the source from their homes. This program provides a safe way of destroying pharmaceuticals through incineration, which environmental specialists consider the best method. By burning the pharmaceuticals, as opposed to flushing or sending medication to the landfill, we can avoid polluting the environment.
