Web-Based Video Program Helps Citizens Understand Land UseHave you ever wondered how a property is rezoned from residential to commercial, or what goes into making the decision? A new monthly web-based video program called Planning Near You answers those questions and more. The Pinellas County Planning Department, in cooperation with Pinellas County Connection Television, is producing the easy-to-understand program to explain not-so-easy-to-understand land-use issues. Planning Near You is designed to detail upcoming plan amendments, rezoning proposals and code changes scheduled for public hearings before the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners each month. Planning Director Brian Smith presents each item in a conversational format so that citizens can get information about potential changes near their properties. Maps, graphics and other informative visual materials are also included in the program. Citizens can access the program on the Pinellas County Planning Department’s website by visiting www.pinellascounty.org/plan. Planning Near You will also air on Pinellas County’s government access channel, PCC-TV, before the 6:30 p.m. public hearing portion of the Board of County Commissioners meetings, before the Pinellas Planning Council’s meetings, before the Metropolitan Planning Organization’s meetings and after all public meeting replays where time permits.
