
Clearwater Police Sgt. James M. Quinlan Now a Two-Time Recipient of the Clearwater Civitan Outstanding Service Award

Quinlan, Brianna Quinlan, Civitan President Richard Fuller, Chief Sid Klein On Tuesday, May 26, at the Clearwater Police Department headquarters, an audience of City Council Members, Carleen Peterson and George Cretekos, Clearwater Civitans, police supervisors, and Sgt. Quinlan’s daughters Chelsea and Brianna, gathered. Clearwater Police Chief Sid Klein delivered a citation commending Sgt. Quinlan for Excellent Performance of Police Duties and Service to the Community. Sgt. Quinlan has recently improved the level of police service to the community by helping develop and effective Watch Commander’s Program. He further conducted an overtime audit that helped improve the data collecting process for overtime costs. This led to the increase in the amount of money reimbursed to the city. Changes in the process of transporting prisoners, have been monitored and evaluated by Sgt. Quinlan, proving significant cost savings to the Department, and increasing police presence on the street. Sgt. Quinlan’s direct community involvement has had him helping to build homes for Habitat for Humanity, and playgrounds in economically challenged area for Kaboom. During his career with the Police Department, Sqt. Quinlan has received many awards, including previous recognition from the Clearwater Civitan Club in 1995 when he dove into the water, while off duty, and saved the lives of two young women who were caught in a rip tide. Chief Klein ended with this comment, “Jim, time and time again, your commitment to the department and citizens of Clearwater shines through. You are a professional with a tireless work ethic. Your honesty, integrity and professionalism are beyond reproach.” Clearwater Civitan Club President Richard Fuller presented the award, a plaque and $150 check, to Sqt. Quinlan. Sgt. Quinlan thanked Chief Klein and the Civitan Club. He then donated the $150 check to the Civitan Club for use in one of their future service projects. A brief coffee social followed.
