
Officers Installed, Scholarships Awarded at Panhellenic Brunchby Sandi Fahy
Photo by SANDI FAHY BELLEAIR - Over 100 members of Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic gathered at Belleair Country Club last month for the organization's annual spring installation and scholarship awards brunch. Claudia Leonardi of Delta Gamma was installed as president for 2009-2010 during a special ceremony at the event. Joining her on the executive board in the coming year are Lynn Lawton of Kappa Alpha Theta, vice president; Pat Moriarty of Pi Beta Phi, treasurer; Christine Regan of Kappa Delta, secretary; and Martha McBride of Phi Mu, corresponding secretary. Kim Swartzel of Delta Delta Delta is outgoing president. Also on the agenda was the presentation of scholarships to four local college sorority women. Clearwater Alumnae Panhellenic has been awarding scholarships to deserving students since 1975. Over $125,000 has been awarded to date. Monies are raised through various Panhellenic activities, including the annual Premier Night at the Largo Cultural Center and Panhellenic bridge group get-togethers. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic achievement, participation in chapter and campus activities, initiative, personal goals and financial need. Receiving scholarships for the 2009-2010 school year were Julie-Ann Burton, Kappa Kappa Gamma, University of Miami; Tracey Frett, Gamma Phi Beta, Florida Institute of Technology; Jayne Wabeke, Kappa Alpha Theta, Florida State University; and Candace Ng, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Emory University. Host sororities for this year's brunch were Phi Mu, Kappa Delta, Delta Gamma and Alpha Chi Omega.
