AmeriCorps Clearwater Offers Free Child Seat Installation CLEARWATER - AmeriCorps Clearwater is offering free child seat installation and checks for infants and toddler car seats at the Clearwater Police Department, 645 Pierce Street in Clearwater. Vehicle crashes are the number one cause of death for children ages 2-14 in the United States. Using the appropriate car seat and making sure it is properly installed can help reduce the risk of injury or death to children who ride in vehicles. Infants: Use a rear-facing car seat until at least the age of 1 and 20 pounds. Toddlers: Use a forward-facing seat until the harness no longer fits. Boosters: Use with vehicle lap and shoulder restraints until the child is approximately 4-foot-9 and weighs between 80 - 100 pounds. For car seat installations or checks, citizens should call 892- KIDS (5437) or the Clearwater Police Department at 562-4142. Installations are available by appointment only on Mondays and Wednesdays.
