Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

Next Tuesday's computer class at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center is all about how to write, and move things around on your computer. The expert instructor will bring a computer for you to work on and teach you how to use it. The cost is only $20 with a recreation card. The class is limited to six people so you can count on having personal attention. With just this class, you'll learn how to keep and make changes in your address book, write letters, or memoirs, or memos and do dozens of other things quicker and cheaper than you've done before. Some also believe that using your mind to figure out a computer and learn to use it will actually help avoid senility as you grow older. Sign up now for the next class on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to Noon.

If summer is beginning to seem the least bit boring to you, or your children, or your parents, hasten down to the Clearwater Beach Library where adventure waits. There's a whole table that features former best sellers for a variety of tastes. If you are interested in human relationships, you might want to try Stand The Storm by Breena Clarke. This is the story of a family's struggle to survive on their own after being freed from slavery.

For the murder mystery enthusiasts, Folly du Jour, set in Paris in 1927. The murder takes place during a performance of Follies Bergere and reveals a whole background of evil and conflict behind the famous performances.

If you like stories about famous people, Stori Telling, by Tori Spelling gives her version of the truth about her drama filled life, pointing out how the media got it all wrong.

The diet book of the hour is The Pritkin Edge, and the required cookbook is, of course, Martha Stewart's Cooking School.

And that's just the beginning of the good reading waiting for you at our Clearwater Beach Library. But remember, our city is almost broke so the library is only open until 1 p.m. each day. Hey, don't knock it. We almost didn't have a library at all and what we have now is a "jewel", the library of the future, tucked away in our Beach Recreation Center which, by the way, has an excellent work out room.
