New Athletic League FormingBy Renee BurrellPINELLAS COUNTY - A great idea to form a county wide athletic league is taking shape, so get ready to join or support your town's teams. Drew Brogdon, the associate director for the Pinellas Athletic League said, " We are starting this league to bring some friendly rivalry back. We want to bring that rivalry to our county, while having a very competitive league for our athletes to compete in, no matter the age group. We will be having four sports throughout the year, baseball and softball, soccer, basketball, beginning with flag football." The league will consist of 16 teams throughout Pinellas County with eight different age groups ranging from ages 8-10 and up to 45 and beyond. There will be one team per town, per age group. Adam Mclean the league's founder explains, "Our long-term vision is to have the best male and female athletes on each team to represent their city. It is more of an all-star league, since we only have room for one team per age category from each city." Locations for competitions are still in the works with organizers looking at possible sights in St. Petersburg and Dunedin. A bonus for Pinellas Athletic League Athletes participating on a team will be a discount off equipment purchases at Big Cat Sporting Goods in Palm Harbor. "There are other leagues in the county" said Brogdon, "But this is the first league of its kind structured in a way where the best athletes in the county from all age groups represent their town or area. We think that it will bring towns those friendly bragging rights." The League's website is www.pinellasjocks.com and though still under construction has information on teams and age groups. The League needs volunteers! Anyone interested in volunteering or requesting more information should contact Drew Brogdon at: info@pinellasjocks.com.
