Clearwater's Newest Junior Horseshoe Pitcher
You're never too young to start. Megan Polski is 11-years-old and has been coming to the club to watch her father and uncle pitch. She decided she wanted to practice on an open court. For the last couple of months on Wednesday night, she pitches about three hours. Megan has also been practicing at home where her father put in a set of pits. Megan has joined the club and is now an official Florida State Junior pitcher. Florida has very few junior pitchers compared to a lot of the other states. By Megan being a junior pitcher she can pitch in three sanction tournaments to be eligible for a $1000 school scholarship, awarded during the Florida State Closed Tournaments. In the above photo Megan is presented with a club logo shirt that is presented to all new members. Also present are Wayne Cowger (left), the club's oldest pitcher and Chuck Johnston, the club president. Wayne is 88-years-young and practices at least four times a week. Wayne started at the age of 10 and still enjoys the game. His credentials are: Three times Florida Elder State Champion, four times Elders Double Champion and five times Mixed Doubles State Champion. Wayne was elected to the Florida Hall of Fame in 2005, and has been a member of the club for 18 years and is ranked in the top 15 highest seniors average in the state of Florida. For information on joining this great sport, stop by any Wednesday evening from 6-9 p.m. or call 727-453-1480. The Clearwater Horseshoe Club is located in Ed Wright Park Lakeview Rd. and M.L.K. Jr. Ave., Clearwater.
