Family Festival Planned for Beach Walk

By Anne McKay Garris

Clearwater Beach's famous Beach Walk is the perfect setting for a festival, combining open space, a breezy beach scene and picturesque landscape. All it needed was a good cause and people to make it happen. The Tampa Bay Harvest program is the good cause, and the Clearwater Beach Association and Tampa Bay Harvest volunteers are the good people.

The first ever Family Fun Festival is planned for October 24 and 25, 2009, with arts and crafts, toys and novelties on sale. Added to this will be family entertainment, games for children of all ages, visits with some of your favorite celebrities, and plenty of food and refreshment.

Tampa Bay Harvest is a unique organization, boasting hundreds of volunteers, directed by one paid supervisor. Its mission is to end hunger in our community by moving good food from super markets, restaurants and other sources to places where hungry people are being fed. Shelters, food pantries and other services are the recipients of the food. The cost of the whole program is very low, thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who participate. But the less than half of 1% operating expenses, are needed for Tampa Bay Harvest to function.

The Family Fun Fest is for the benefit of these expenses.

The Clearwater Beach Association is offering volunteers and planning help for the festival in celebration of Beach Walk as well as concern the welfare of the community.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to participate in the adventure of working on the Family Fun Fest is urged to call Rich Gonzalez at 727-394-1012.

Crafters wishing to sign up to participate will want to check out the festival webb page at www.familyfunfest.net.

And everyone will want to put October 24 and 25 on your calendar now. You won't want to miss the Family Fun Fest at Beach Walk.
