
Two Local Youths Capture Attention As Figure SkatersBy Leo CoughlinTwo local kids could be on their way to the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating qualifying after winning the recent competition in the Tampa Bay Skating Club's 18th Annual Orange Blossom Open in Oldsmar August 7. Sara Preston Davidson, 9, the daughter of Kent and Kathy Davidson of Clearwater and Trent Wintermeier, 11, son of John and Holly Wintermeier of Dunedin, have been a skating pair for about a year and a half. The young skaters are schooled by Olympic coach Pauline Gasparini and Olympic medalist Jim Mills, in coordination with their solo coach, Bill Coyle. They won gold medals at the 50th anniversary ISI championship in May and the ISI world championships last summer. Bruce and Mary Black, a member of the Largo City Commission, are the grandparents of Sara and Linda Wintermeier is the grandmother of Trent. Her late husband, John, was the Largo Parks and Recreation director for many years.
