Linda Hamrell RetiresBy Anne McKay Garris
Linda Hamrell greets guests at the grand opening of the Clearwater Beach Library's new quarters in 2008. Friends and fans are invited to a retirement party for long-term Beach Librarian Linda Hamrell, on Friday, September 25, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Clearwater's Main Library, in the second floor, Youth Services Division. After 23 years of outstanding service to the Clearwater Library program, Linda is stepping down. For over half of those years, she held down the fort at the Clearwater Beach Branch through many changes, never losing her cool, nor getting flustered. "I confess," she says, "the Beach Branch is still my first love. I am glad it is staying open, as well as the other branches." Shortly after we celebrated the grand opening of the newest edition of the Beach Branch, Mrs. Hamrell transferred back to town and is currently working in the Youth Services division of the main library. Asked about her plans for retirement, she confessed that she had always loved to read. "I will be thrilled to get a chance to read more than I used to," she said. "Other than that I'll probably finally get some long- overdue filing done and start clearing out my neglected storeroom."
