
Superboats to Roar Off Clearwater Beach This WeekendCLEARWATER - If you're looking for excitement, Clearwater is the place to be this weekend. Super Boat International and is bringing some of the fastest and largest offshore power boats in the world to the city from Friday, October 2nd through Sunday, October 4th for Clearwater's 1st Annual Super Boat National Championship Festival. Equipped with F-16 jet canopies and extreme speeds of up to 200 mph, the power boats will compete on a 5.3 mile course in the Gulf of Mexico off Clearwater Beach north of Pier 60. These mad machines will be manned by a partnership of superb drivers controlling the boats steering and throttlemen responsible for operating up to four engines capable of producing more than 6,000 horsepower, creating a high-energy spectacular show tackling the choppy Gulf waters at mind blowing speeds. In addition to the Saturday afternoon practice session from noon to 6pm and two races on Sunday, spectators will enjoy a festive atmosphere extending from Coachman Park to Pier 60. Plenty of parking will be available in downtown Clearwater with rides to and from the beach via the Jolly Trolley. On Friday and Saturday starting at 9am, fans will be able to view the boats in the "dry pits" at Coachman Park and meet the drivers. Food and drink vendors will be on hand to add to your enjoyment. The festivities will move to Pier 60 for a concert at 7pm on Saturday, followed by a fireworks show at 8:30pm. On Sunday, the races are scheduled for 11am and 1pm, but be sure you get to the beach early to claim your viewing area. The awards presentation is scheduled for 5pm.
