Teen Car Control Clinic Offered

Are you concerned that High School Drivers Education class hasn't adequately prepared your youthful driver with the skills necessary to survive the sometimes harsh realities of area roadways? The Florida Suncoast Chapter of the BMW Car Club is offering a program on November 7-8 that goes well beyond Drivers Ed, the Tire Rack Street Survival/Bill Houghton Memorial Car Control Clinic.

The Car Control Clinic is essential for improving driving skills and becoming more aware, more controlled and safer in everyday driving. It is open to drivers of all ages and consists of classroom instruction and in-car exercises. CCC students must be at least 15 ½ years old and have a valid learner's permit or license.

Day 1 (November 7) consists of classroom instruction, where the student will learn about the physics and forces impacting their vehicle and what to expect on Day 2. The session will be held at Reeves BMW, 109 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa 33612, from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm (Showroom second floor classroom). Attendance at this session is required to participate on Day 2.

Day 2 (November 8), conducted at the Hernando County Airport in Brooksville from 8 am to 4 pm, consists of in-car driving instruction using the student's own vehicle. Training includes: Threshold Braking, ABS Braking/Collision Avoidance, Proper Corner Maneuvering, Slalom Course, Wet Skid Pad and Advanced Classroom. Lunch will be provided by Saint Pizza and Omelet Party Experience..

The registration fee is $60 per student. Parents of students with a learner's permit must attend, and all parents of young drivers are encouraged to attend and observe.
