They were there to present a certificate of appreciation to Mayor Frank Hibbard. The brief presentation at the start of the 6 p.m. meeting was in recognition of the city's maintenance of dozens of U.S. flags that fly over public sites. "We present many certificates to organizations that honor our citizens and our country by flying the flag," said George Roberts, the group's publicist. "Especially in view of the recent negative publicity about Clearwater proposing to remove flags due to budget constraints, we're happy to give this recognition. The city has a long history of honoring our country by displaying the colors at its public facilities." The Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society perpetuating the ideals at the core of the American war for independence. The non-profit corporation advocates the lessons of American history: patriotism, citizenship and respect for national U.S. symbols.
