Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay Garris"The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.....or queens." Nevermind that William Shakespeare gave us clear pictures of how unhappy kings and queens can be, the rest of the thought is, I think, valid. Take Clearwater Beach's library and recreation center, for instance. There's no excuse for anyone being either bored, or lonely, as long as they have the very few dollars it takes to participate in the varied programs provided for you at one location. To begin with, if your idea of adventure is just sitting in a comfortable chair and enjoying the combination of a good book and a beautiful view, our Clearwater Beach Library is the best place to be. Besides that, on Monday, November 9, there's a free movie, sponsored by the Library. It's The Dawn Patrol, starring Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone. The movie starts at 2:00 pm. And, now that the weather is getting cool and brisk -- well cooler than it was -- the recreation center is bringing aboard even more ways to "get moving" than we had during the lazy summer months. Starting on November 18, is the popular Line Dancing program, led by the ever pleasant Jewels, who is also introducing a more emphatic exercise program this year. Starting on November 16, Jewels is also offering an exercise program called, most vividly, "Butts and Guts". This one will be on Mondays, from 11:00 am to Noon. Then too, there's tennis, and basketball, and the modern, airy exercise room. There's Wii for seniors and teens, and the writer's group on Wednesday afternoons as well as computers to use and videos to check out. My goodness, the library is so much more than a place to check out books, these days. Although you can do that too, from a wide variety of libraries throughout Pinellas County and the whole country, if necessary. Best of all, volunteers to help at the library or on the Clearwater Beach Friends of the Library and Recreation Center will reap all the rewards of volunteering to be a help to their community. Try it! You'll like it!
