Opinion Poll Result - Marina Reverter Clause

By Carl Wagenfohr

CLEARWATER - In the November 4th issue of the Gazette, we published a story about Clearwater's effort to relax the 1925 State of Florida reverter clause on the municipal marina property.

Along with that story in our online edition last week, we conducted an opinion poll, asking, "What is your opinion of Clearwater's effort to relax the 1925 State of Florida reverter clause that limits redevelopment options for the Municipal Marina property?"

Our readers responded:

  • 56-percent - Leave the existing 1925 reverter clause in effect
  • 34-percent - Amend the 1925 reverter clause to eliminate conflict with any current uses of the property, but require a public referendum for any proposed sale of the property or for any redevelopment of the property that alters any of its existing public purpose uses.
  • 9-percent - Eliminate the 1925 reverter clause entirely, allowing the City Council to redevelop the property alone or in partnership with private interests to the extent permitted by local land use and zoning regulations.

We thank those who participated.
