Belleair Shore Plans Action on Unkempt Sites

By Leo Coughlin

BELLEAIR BLUFFS - Belleair Shore plans to crack down severely on properties in the town that are unkempt, the Town Commission decided at its meeting last week.

The plan is to make direct action easier.

One property, at 1650 Gulf Boulevard, is egregiously bad, with grass grown very tall.

Mayor John Robertson said the property is not occupied and may be in foreclosure.

The situation has motivated the commission to get a part time code enforcement officer, to use as needed.

The commission set the qualifying period for the 2010 election in March from December 1 to 14.

Terms are up for Bob Schmidt, a longtime commissioner member, Ray Piscitelli and Richard Jordan. All are expected to seek re-election.

Those running for office, incumbents or challengers, should pick up qualifying packages at the office of John Elias, the town attorney, at 611 Druid Road East, Suite 512 in Clearwater.

Elias is working to make adjustments, mostly minor, in the move to make municipal ordinances consistent with county laws.
