Re: Community Center - E-mail sent to Largo Mayor and Commissioners

I read with interest the dialogue on the new community center planned for Largo. I would like to add my voice to that of Commissioners Holmes, and Black on this issue.

Looking at my tax bill for this year, I noticed that the value of my home fell by 7.5%, and most of the taxing authorities of my bill also were lower, the lone exception was the City of Largo. I paid more in city taxes this year, even though the value of my home fell.

That's neither right, nor fair. On top of this increase, you want to indebt me even more by borrowing for a community center. I can't support that. Too many of our friends, and neighbors (myself included), can't afford any more. Collect the penny for Pinellas money, then spend. Please don't borrow against it for the project.

To Commissioner Arntzen, I realize you were in government for 30 years, and trust city staff to make the right recommendations, but sometimes their priorities are different from yours, or mine.

My favorite President, Ronald Reagan had a pet phrase,"trust, but verify", which I think is very apropos for this situation. Run the city like a household, you don't go in debt in times of economic uncertainty.
