
AAA Christmas Travel Projections for 2009TAMPA - The perception of economic recovery is delivering a rebound in holiday travel this year as 87.7 million Americans are projected to travel during the Christmas/New Year's Holiday (Dec. 23 to Jan. 3). However, Florida and Georgia are projected to show a 4.7 percent decrease in overall travel versus 2008 while in Tennessee a 3 percent increase is projected in holiday travel this year. Regional holiday travel declines are expected to range from 2.4 percent for areas such as the Middle Atlantic region (NJ, NY, PA) to 4.7 percent for the South Atlantic region (FL, GA, SC, NC, DC, DE, MD, VA and WVA) and 4.8 percent for the Mountain region (AZ, CO, ID, MT, NM, NV, UT and WY).
