Keene Road Open to TrafficCLEARWATER - The road and railroad crossing, Keene Road, between Sunset Point Road and Drew Street (State Road 590), was re-opened to traffic Monday, December 14. Pinellas County Public Works, in conjunction with CSX Transportation, Inc., completed improvements to the railroad crossing, roadway, sidewalk and drainage in the area. The new railroad crossing was constructed with reinforced concrete panels that have a 20-year lifespan. The project also redesigned the intersection of Flagler Drive and Keene Road to accommodate right-turn only traffic from Flagler Drive onto southbound Keene Road. This will provide improved safety for the roughly 28,000 vehicles that travel this section of Keene Road each day. The upgrade dramatically improves the endurance, safety and usability of the railroad crossing. The majority of funding for this project came from the Penny for Pinellas sales tax.
