Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

To be a popular Santa, especially for your friends and family who, "don't drink, don't smoke, and are usually on a diet," do your Christmas shopping at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center. That's right, it's not a spelling error. Think about this!

Has someone on your list always talked about getting more exercise? At the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center you can purchase them tennis lessons, dancing lessons - ballroom, swing, or line dancing. You can treat them to a year's admittance to the weight and exercise room (not expensive for what you get) where they will get healthy exercise in a spacious, airy room with a beautiful view of Clearwater Bay.

Wii, the game which lets even wheelchair bound folks bowl, box, or play tennis, is sponsored by the Clearwater Beach Library on Wednesdays. It does not cost anything to play, but a nice gift would be an offer to enliven their Wednesdays by taking them there and playing with them. This is truly a great game and even surprisingly good exercise. I lost two games to my two-year-old great grandson and found I needed a rest before going again.

You could also make a creative gift offer out of offering to use one of the library computers to show a friend how relatively easy it is to use the computer. This could give them to confidence to believe they can do it.

Or, you could rent one of the rooms at the Rec Center and give a party to honor your friend or relative.

Just drop by and one of the friendly people at the desk will help you be a memorable Santa this Christmas.
