Sheriff's Police Athletic League Program Opens In DunedinThe opening of the Pinellas Sheriff's PAL program in Dunedin is the latest in a series of youth outreach initiatives by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office and PAL to reach youngsters interested in sports and academic assistance. In December, the Sheriff's PAL Sports Complex was opened in the Lealman area. The Police Athletic League has a long history of fostering a positive relationship between young people and law enforcement, along with providing sports related activities, youth mentoring, and academic assistance. According to Sheriff Jim Coats, "Our PAL program provides a safe environment for youth to pursue their athletic interests, make friends and interact with law enforcement which we hope will have a positive effect and help them stay out of the criminal justice system".
