Local Eagle Scout Receives Award

James S. Welch, III

Chaplain David Kitchen introduced our chapter Eagle Scout Scholarship winner for 2009, James S. Welch, III and presented him with a chapter check in the amount of $100.00 and an SAR Eagle Scout Good Citizenship Medal, which was emblematic of his being the 2009 chapter winner. Compatriot Kitchen then announced that our chapter winner placed second in the State Society competition and would be receiving a $500 check from the State Society and $200 from the State Ladies Auxiliary. Eagle Scout Welch's father attended the luncheon with him.

The Eagle Scout program is responsible for recognizing young men who achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, and demonstrate a belief in the same principles of Patriotism and American Heritage as the National Society. These individuals are deserving of special recognition for their accomplishments and dedication.

The Clearwater Chapter serves the Pinellas and western Pasco counties, including the communities of Clearwater, Port Richey, New Port Richey, and Hudson. Activities include a variety of programs to promote the patriotic, educational, and historical interests resulting from the American Revolution.

The Clearwater Chapter meetings are held at the Dunedin Country Club, 1050 Palm Blvd, Dunedin, 34698. Meeting starts at high noon on the third Wednesday of each month, except June through August. We welcome all men and boys who are interested in documenting their relationship to their American Revolutionary ancestors, and in joining an active group with similar interests. Please contact the Chapter Registrar, Parks Honeywell, at (727) 372-4641.
