Email to Shirley Frick, Mayor/Commission Secretary, City of LargoShirley, Please forward to the Mayor and Commission. I want to share some comments regarding garage and yard sales in Largo that I have received from citizens when they found out I work for the City of Largo. Change the ordinance regarding signs posted on the right-of-way. Allow individuals to post their garage or yard sale sign until the Monday after the sale on the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday or whatever combination days of the sale). On Monday, go to the addresses of individuals who have not taken down their signs and give them a warning or citation. A few citizens have told me that they have witnessed a code enforcement officer yelling at individuals as he/she was pulling up signs from the front yards where a yard sale was taking place. Individuals who have discussed this with me have said they, personally, always take down their signs after the sale. A citizen who lives on Trotter in Largo said a church on Trotter puts up a huge sign on the right-of-way at the corner of 8th and Trotter every year prior to the church's fall festival. The sign the church puts up in the right-of-way is left standing for over a week prior to the event, but the garage or yard sale signs put up on the same right-of-way, gets taken down by the City Code Enforcement Officers. I know this is true because I too have seen the church festival sign posted on the corner every year. Is there an exception in the ordinance for churches?
Thanks,
