Frank Chivas is elected as Vice Chairman by the Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Academy
CLEARWATER - Mr. Frank Chivas has been elected as the Vice Chairman of the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy Board of Directors. In 2006 Chivas joined the board, and in 2007 served as Board Development Chairman. Since then he has headed numerous expansion projects in an effort to help the Academy meet the future programming needs for at risk students and local children.
Mr. Chivas is the owner of the Baystar Restaurant Group that includes: Island Way Grill, Marlin Darlin, Salt Rock Grill, and Rumba Island Bar and Grill. His Baystar Group has also provided thousands of dollars in food contributions to Academy fundraising events since 2006.
Mr. Chivas helped coordinate a joint partnership with the Pinellas County School District to increase the Academy's student population. As a result, the Academy's student population doubled and it has grown to include grades four through eight. That $300,000 project was completed in record time over four months.
Other projects that came to fruition during Mr. Chivas' tenure is the fusion of the Boys and Girls Club as the Academy's after-school program. He completed Phase I of the largest construction project in the history of the Academy, the Chi Chi Golf and Family Sports Complex. It took from April 2009 through January and $383,000 to complete Phase I of the project on McMullen Booth Road.
With its new facelift, the renovated Sports Complex will be serving as the new home to the Academy's The First Tee of Clearwater's summer golf camps. More than 1,000 children will have access to safe, healthy, and fun activities. The Sports Complex is open to the public seven days a week. Call (727) 216-6389 for information.
