Learn About Shell Craft At Clearwater Beach Recreation Center
Clearwater Beach resident, Pat Murphy, with some of the beautiful shell crafts she has created and some of the seashell ornaments decorated by Helen Rosbolt. Since moving to Clearwater Beach, when her husband retired from the U.S. Army, Pat Murphy has enjoyed a hobby of decorating with seashells, mostly those she finds for herself on the beach. Helen Rosbolt also enjoys decorating with shells, but she specializes in creating lovely decorations that adorn Christmas trees and other special places in the home. Anne Garris has been collecting seashells in Clearwater Beach for over fifty years. Working with her mother and father at their shell shop on the Beach, she learned the names and habits of most of them. These three ladies are teaming up to provide a program called "All About Sea Shells," which will be available at the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center on March 16th and March 24th. Participants in All About Shells will learn how to decorate with seashells, using everything from mirrors to any size box, to purses, and lampshades. Also, one whole session will be on making ornaments out of shells, using the shells you have found on the beach, shells provided by the program, or special shells you will find in the stores of Clearwater Beach. Another session will be about the habits and hiding places of the shells you could find on Clearwater Beach and in the immediate area. Cost for each two-hour session will be $15, and some materials will be supplied.
