Email to the Largo Mayor and Commissioners

To the Commissioners and Mayor of Largo,

My name is Ted Bradley and I have been a USA Swimming athlete, Division-I NCAA student-athlete, and a US Masters Swimming National Record holder. More importantly, I have been competing in events held at the Southwest Recreation Complex pool since 1992, and I can attest that this particular facility has played a vital factor in the success of my athletic career as well as many other swimmers and athletes. I recently became aware that the Southwest Recreation Complex pool may be in risk of closing, and I urge you to reconsider this idea.

The Southwest Complex has been home to the WFLA swim team, which has generated nationally ranked swimmers and many that were granted division-I athletic scholarships to major universities such as Florida State. Without the continuation of the facility and the WFLA swimming program, many youth and high school swimmers in the Largo area will not have the opportunities that I have had.

Swimming has played a very important role throughout my life and it has taught me several core values such as respect, teamwork, and dedication. Many consider competitive swimming to be one of the toughest sports in the world, yet we compete in the sport for ourselves, our team, and most importantly, fun. It is a sport that both challenges and rewards our youth while teaching them several critical values that will help them succeed in their future careers and in life.

I strongly urge you to consider alternative methods to allow the Southwest Recreation Complex pool to remain open.

Sincerely,
Ted Bradley
