Books-a-Party is a Piece of Cake

Photos/text by SANDI FAHY

Diana Valerio, 10, poses for a photo next to the cake she created for the cake decorating contest held in conjunction with the Dunedin Public Library's Books-a-Party Open House on April 17. Her entry titled "Zoey 101", based on the book by that name, won the award for "Most Delicious Looking Cake". Other winners were Karina Fonslet, "Best in Show"; Brittany Clark, "Best Children's Cake"; Domenique and Max Sterling, "Most Creative Cake"; and Deborah Gnibus, "Best Adult Cake". The event also featured a storytime and crafts session for children along with a trivia contest, book sale, dulcimer concert, steel drum performance and more. Those attending received a piece of birthday cake as they arrived from a representative of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative, which is celebrating 20 years of service.

Maddy Smith, 6, at back, and her sister Lilly Smith, 4, were caught on camera while checking out the entries in the cake decorating contest at the Dunedin Public Library on April 17. The award-winning cake at right by Domenique and Max Sterling was judged "Most Creative". Its theme was "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", based on the book by Lewis Carroll.
