Largo Fire Rescue Secures Grant for Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses

A Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

LARGO - The City of Largo is pleased to announce that on April 21st, Fire Chief Wallace was notified by Congressman C.W. "Bill" Young's office that the fire department had been awarded a grant to assist with the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).

These units allow firefighters to breath compressed air while working in environments that are dangerous to life and health. The purchase of this equipment will cost in excess of $400,00, with $277,200 provided by the Assistance to Firefighters Grant from FEMA. This will result in significant savings to the city budget and the taxpayers of the community.

"These new devices will make an inherently dangerous job much safer for the firefighters of the City of Largo Fire Rescue. The new equipment incorporates the latest technology, including location systems for firefighters who are injured, lost, or down in a fire," stated Chief Wallace.
