Pinellas County Names EMT/Paramedic of the Year During EMS Week

In an awards ceremony at the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners meeting today, Pinellas County Public Safety Services named two local emergency medical services professionals as the county's emergency medical technician and paramedic of the year in honor of EMS Week, May 16 - 22.

Sunstar Critical Care Transport EMT David Selbach is Pinellas County's EMT of the Year. A 15-year EMS veteran, Selbach has been with the Sunstar Critical Care Transport team for the past seven years. In addition, he serves on the Florida-3 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) and State Emergency Response Team (SERT).

Selbach was also named recipient of the state EMT of the Year award, presented each year by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. From St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, Pinellas County's Paramedic of the Year is Firefighter/Paramedic Christopher Henderson. In addition to responding to EMS calls from Fire Station #3, Henderson is a preceptor for St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and St. Petersburg College. As a paramedic instructor at St. Petersburg College, Henderson also serves on SPC's EMS Advisory Committee.

The award recipients each received a plaque, lapel pin and a $100 cash award from the Pinellas Federal Credit Union.

EMS Week is celebrated nationwide each May by the American College of Emergency Physicians to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's front line. The theme of this year's campaign is "Anytime. Anywhere. We'll be there."
