Bluffs Commission Delays Action for Now on Any Budget Moves

By Leo Coughlin

BELLEAIR BLUFFS - The City Commission took its first look at shaping up the fiscal year 2011 city budget at its workshop meeting Monday night.

Preliminary figures show a shortfall of $253,763, but as Mayor Chris Arbutine pointed out that is predicated on the idea of cutting the millage rate from 4.35 to 4.30.

"I don't know what we'll do yet," he said, "but we'll figure something out."

The only item in the budget that will increase is the contract with the Sheriff's Office for policing which is expected to go up a little more than 2 percent.

Arbutine said the commission really hasn't gotten into the details of the budget yet, but seemed confident that the shortfall would be taken care of.

Also on the agenda were proposed ordinances that basically have to do with housekeeping in some details of elections.

The commission held up on any action to place on the November ballot a referendum that would revise sections of the city Charter.
