SPCA Tampa Bay Hosts Disaster Preparedness Weekend for People and Pets

Andrew, Ivan, and Katrina are just a few of the recent hurricanes that caused widespread destruction and the deaths of many people…and family pets. Don't let your four legged family members fall victim this hurricane season! SPCA Tampa Bay will teach you how to protect yourself and your pets during a lifesaving weekend: Disaster Preparedness for People and Pets on Saturday, June 26, from 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, June 27, from12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., at SPCA Tampa Bay in Largo.

Guests and the Media are invited to meet with multiple emergency rescue organizations and discuss their role in disaster preparedness and recovery and the importance of humans having a plan of action for all family members, including their animals, before an evacuation or an emergency situation exists.

Presentations and/or displays will be held both days by: Florida Blood Mobile, Bay-Area Disaster Animal Response Team (DART), NOAA, and Hurricane Hunters.

Guests will be able to donate blood if they choose during the 2-day event in their new Blood Mobile.

Pet owners can also find all their animal hurricane necessities at our large Tent Sale going on at the corner of 126th Ave. N. and Starkey Ave. Animal accessories, toys and crates will be available for up to 50% off! (Food and Frontline are not included.) Crates are a great place to secure animals during an emergency situation and give pets and their owners' peace of mind.

For additional information, a schedule of presentations, or to sign up to donate blood, go to www.spcatampabay.org and click on the Disaster Preparedness Weekend for People and Pets.
