"And then you click on…" Clearwater Library Computer Instructor Chris Ranney instructs Clearwater Beach resident Adam Laffery in the fine art of registering for college classes on line.

On Monday, the new program of Computer Instruction at the Clearwater Beach Library began, using computers purchased with the financial help of Friends Of The Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center, the Clearwater Beach Association, and some members of the Association.

For the foreseeable future, Mr. Ranney will be on hand each Monday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. to help you learn whatever computer program you wish.

In addition to helping Mr. Laffery with his college registration, our Computer Instructor also showed two grandmothers how to do Facebook. There is no charge for the program and no registration. Those interested in participating should simply go to the Beach Library between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Mondays. They will find Chris and his computers in the small room across from the weight room. If he is occupied with another patron, it is all right to interrupt and let him know you are there. You can wait quietly in the room or he will come and get you in the library when he is ready for you. You may bring your own laptop with you or use one of the three available at the library.

Chris is a student at St. Petersburg College and a self-taught computer buff. He volunteered to help teach computer programs in the library system and was hired to be the teacher for this new program. "Have your questions ready," he says, "And we'll show you how to do it."

Next time you are at the Clearwater Beach Library, take a minute and fill out the customer survey you will find on the counter. This information helps the library to serve you better. If you have some free time, they can still use volunteers in the pleasant business of helping the Librarian keep return books to the shelves and in other ways.

One of the most exciting things discussed at the recent Friends Of The Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center meeting was the possibility of year around Tai Chi sessions, good for improving balance and related abilities. Also, the Friends have provided the funding for an extra month of keeping the pool open on weekends, August 28 to September 19, on Saturdays and Sundays, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Come! Enjoy!
