Rotary Club of Clearwater Holds Monthly Meeting

Foot surgeon, Dr. Thomas Odmark, speaks with Rotarians and a group of high school students from Germany.

At a recent meeting, Thomas Odmark, MD of Orthopedic Associates of West Florida, Inc. spoke to the Rotary Club of Clearwater. Dr. Odmark shared information regarding several common foot problems including the most prevalent foot issue in America: Plantar Fasciitis. Dr. Odmark notes that most cases of Plantar Fasciitis can be helped conservatively, citing stretching of the calf as the most important rehabilitative activity. In hundreds of cases that Dr. Odmark has seen over the past few years only five have required surgical intervention. Dr. Odmark gave great explanations of Pes Planus (flat feet) and Pes Cavus (high arches) and how they can be both congenital and acquired. Mid Foot arthritis is another issue he commonly works with.

This meeting was also shared with a group of German exchange students. The Rotary Club of Leverkusen Germany and The Rotary Club of Clearwater continue their tradition of student exchange. The Brickfields and Hinsons acted as host families for the four students. While visiting the Tampa Bay area, the students will get a chance to experience America while staying as guests of the Rotarians. The students will get see several of our local attractions, including: a Rays baseball game, the Dali museum, and, of course, our beautiful beaches.
