Union impasse

FINALLY, FINALLY the Largo Commission has shown some courage. In the days of ole the City Fathers have, obviously, caved to ALL the union demands. You have finally stopped this. A special acknowledgment to Mr. Schubert for giving an excellent presentation and explaining things CLEARLY (for a change.)

To the mayor, it appeared as though you did an excellent job maintaining a professional and sincere atmosphere at the meeting.

To the union officials, it's truly sad that you deliberately attempt to drive a wedge between your members against the taxpayers (us), city staff and the elected body. What Commissioner Holmes said is true, you didn't make a very convincing case, but what Mr. Schubert said came as quite a surprise, the average firefighter costs us $102,000 a year. Startling! It's difficult to understand what the union's problem was especially considering today's economic environment.

Job well done.

PS: Commissioner Holmes, your judicial comments about a booklet you received wasn't wrong, but it wasn't right either. You should have said "point of order."
