Email to the Largo Mayor and Commission

Mr. Schubert:

Last night, at the budget meeting, I questioned the expenditure of $192.000 for office furniture for the new Community Center. Your answer, "it includes other furniture" was insufficient. I would like an itemized list and cost of all items. Tables and chairs were under a different purchase order. Also, what will be done with the tables and chairs that are at the present CC?

Thank you for your reply.

In response to your inquiry regarding the expenditure of funds for furniture for the new Community Center, Assistant City Manager Henry Schubert has provided the following information:

On September 13, 2010 the City Commission approved the FY 2011 Budget on first reading. At that meeting, you questioned the $193,000 expenditure included on the previous week's City Commission agenda for office furniture for the new Community Center. The specific purchase in question is with Florida Business Interiors. This purchase is not just for office furniture, but for a variety of furnishings for the new building, including some outdoor chairs, benches, and tables. The total expenditure of $193,000 includes:

Staff office/volunteer area furniture 34,477.62

Other furniture 104,361.00

Delivery/Installation 14,581.00

Outdoor furniture 21,684.00

Contingency 17,896.38

The city utilized state contract pricing for this purchase. State contract prices are either fixed amounts or a percentage of list price, based on the specific commodity. The furniture selected is commercial grade designed specifically for use in commercial and public buildings. It is of the same quality as the furniture purchased for the Largo Public Library, which has provided good service since the opening of that facility in July 2005.

Attached is a copy of Purchase Order 55354 in the amount of $193,000 to Florida Business Interiors, including the detailed price proposal upon which the purchase order is based. The contingency amount will be spent only if additional furnishings are identified as we continue with the final outfitting of the building and the surrounding park area.

A public sale will be held for disposal of the furniture and other furnishings from the old Community Center.

If you require any additional information please don't hesitate to contact Assistant City Manager Schubert at 727-587-6744 or e-mail hschuber@largo.com.
