CLEARWATER – After achieving a designation as “Florida's Best Beach Town” by USA Today earlier this year, the national daily newspaper announced Wednesday that the city's balmy beach along the Gulf of Mexico took top honors in its readers' choice award for “Best Place to Watch a Sunset.”

In USA Today's announcement at 12 noon, it stated that the “expanse of beach and iconic pier no doubt played a part in driving votes. But to prove that 'Margaritaville' is a state of mind and clearly unrelated to latitude, other winners spanned the United States from north to south . . . and some winners weren't even on the water.”

Finishing out the top 10 were Tybee Island, Ga. – 10th, Sedona, Ariz. – 9th, Panama City Beach – 8th, Tucson, Ariz. – 7th, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – 6th, Outer Banks in N.C.  – 5th, Key West – 4th, Albuquerque, NM – 3rd and Leland, Mich. – 2nd.
