Winter holds solid lead over Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Key West
CLEARWATER – This city is in the spotlight again in a USA Today Travel Media Group and 10Best poll; this time for “Best Florida Attraction.”
Clearwater Marine Aquarium, a working marine animal hospital that’s also a movie set, is leading the statewide poll that identifies 20 attractions.
The poll singles out the aquarium’s superstar resident, “Winter, whose heartwarming biopic, ‘Dolphin Tale,’ (in which she played herself) catapulted the small facility into the public sphere. Plans for expansion are in the works and visitors from all over the world flock to see Winter and enjoy this attraction reborn.”
The other nominees include: The Dali Museum of St. Petersburg; Anna Maria Island’s city pier; The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota; the art deco district of Miami’s South Beach neighborhood and South Beach itself; the beaches of Daytona; Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine; Blue Spring State Park west of Orange City; Discovery Cove in Orlando; Everglades National Park; Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas National Park; Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island; the Magic Kingdom in Lake Buena Vista; Mallory Square’s Sunset Celebration in Key West; the Southernmost Point in Key West; Worth Avenue shopping district in Palm Beach; and seashells of Sanibel Island.
The nominees for “Best Florida Attraction” were chosen by a panel of “savvy Florida experts who know the state inside and out,” according to the poll.
Earlier this year, the city received top honors in the categories of “Best Beach Town in Florida” and the “Best Place to Watch a Sunset” in the nation.
