SAFETY HARBOR – Mr. and Mrs. Michael Shaluly of Mastercut Tool Corp. presented the town of Safety Harbor with a check in the amount of $21,115 to be used towards the 9/11 memorial project.

The check presentation took place during the regular town commission meeting at Safety Harbor City Hall this week.

The town obtained a piece of steel from the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001, through the efforts of its fire department.

The piece of steel, provided by the We Will Never Forget 911 Foundation, Inc. , will be used as a memorial for public display. City staff has been working on plans to build a memorial on Main Street between city hall and fire station 52.

The conceptual plan for the memorial calls for three benches that will be pay tribute to Flight 93, the World Trade Center, and the Pentagon. A pedestal will house the 9/11 artifact and will be secured by etched glass.

The $25,000 project will be funded entirely through private donations and is expected to be completed by September 2014.
