ISLAND ESTATES – The Island Estates Women's Club has provided a social outlet for the women of Island Estates for more than 50 years. Founded as a garden club in 1961, the organization has evolved into a thriving club with more than 200 members.

To kick off the new season, the club's first luncheon is Tuesday at The Lobster Pot on Clearwater Beach. The guest speaker is former Clearwater mayor and Clearwater Marine Aquarium Board member Frank Hibbard. He will address the referendum facing voters in November regarding the expansion of the Clearwater Marine Aquarium to the downtown site of Clearwater City Hall. To make reservations, contact Helen Frain (727) 445-9290.

The club will meet monthly through May 2014. It is open to women who live on Island Estates and those who are sponsored by a member. Contact membership chair Joan Landreth at (727) 812-8078 for more information.

Through various fundraising efforts, the club supports organizations including Clothes To Kids, the RCS food bank and the Pinellas County Mammography Voucher Program. The club also sponsors a scholarship program for qualified local young women entering college through its charity trust. The Oct. 15 luncheon will be held at Island Way Grill. The topic is a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness.
