Largo firefighter receives hero surprise by Teenage Mutant Ninjas

LARGO – Largo Firefighter Nick Rees received a surprise visit last week at Largo Fire Rescue Station 39.

Rees was greeted by family, friends, co-workers and special guests and Nickelodeon Heroes, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Largo Fire Rescue and Nickelodeon Suites Resort honored Rees for his heroic and life saving efforts earlier this year and awarded a weekend stay at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort in Orlando.

On a Sunday night in May, Rees and his brother were playing foosball at a pub in Indian Rocks Beach when a man walked in and started stabbing the woman tending bar. At one point, Rees blocked the knife with his arm.

Rees, his brother Gordon and bystander Michael Arnold managed to wrestle a man, identified by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office as James Klingbeil, to the floor. The three men kept Klingbeil subdued until deputies showed up. The bartender, Rees, and Arnold were treated at local hospitals for their cuts, which were not life-threatening.
