Spring brings kitty showers at Animal Services

Published:   |   Updated: April 11, 2014 at 09:01 AM

Pinellas County Animal Services is having a kitty shower during the month of April. During this month-long event, residents and cat lovers are welcomed to donate much needed supplies for momma cats and kittens.

Each spring, Pinellas County Animal Services expects the number of kittens in need of care to rise. Those interested in participating in the kitty shower are asked to donate items necessary to help prepare new arrivals for life in a foster home, including milk replacement formula, kitten nursing bottles, toys, baby blankets, bags of litter and wet and dry kitten food.

In addition to donating an item to the kitty shower, animal lovers can become foster parents to many of the kittens arriving this spring. The foster care program requires a foster application and approval. All foster care parents are required to complete the volunteer orientation class and foster training held on Saturday at the Pinellas County Animal Services shelter. Volunteer orientation class begins at 10 a.m., and foster training immediately follows at noon.

Pinellas County Animal Services is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo. Normal hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the adoption center closing at 5:30 p.m. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and services include adoptions. Rabies vaccinations are administered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. through the end of April and Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. The facility is closed on all Pinellas County holidays.
