Planning council lauds city’s Highland Recreation Complex

LARGO — The city has received the 2014 Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council’s Future of the Region Award for the new Highland Recreation Complex.

As described by the council, “Highland Rec adds a truly unique cultural, sports and recreational venue to the region’s offerings.” The 40,000-plus-square-foot building features PlayWorld, a three-story indoor playground; ExerPlay, an active gaming room; indoor walking track; double gymnasium; fitness room; and party rooms.

Highland Recreation Complex, which opened on June 2, 2013, is at 400 Highland Ave. N.E. Hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays; 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays; and 12:30 to 5 p.m. Sundays.
