BELLEAIR — The Belleair Rotary Club held its annual Installation of Officers and Awards Banquet on June 28 and Joyce Baskin was sworn into office as president for the upcoming 2014/2015 term.
At the event, held at the Belleair Country Club, Baskin was sworn in by Clearwater Rotary Club member Herb Brown, a former Rotary International president. She will continue to build the rotary club to an even better service organization with ties to the local community.
Outgoing president Charles “Chuck” Holloway spoke about the successful year and highlighted the Wine & Tapas event, which grossed nearly $30,000.
In addition to the installing the new officers, Brown talked about the successes of the efforts by the Rotary International to eradicate polio. The club’s most notable global project has reportedly help eliminate polio in all but three countries since the first vaccination of children in the Philippines in 1979.
Since forming in 1905, Rotary International has grown to include approximately 1.2 million members and 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries. The overall mission of the Rotary is to provide service to others, promote integrity and advance understanding, goodwill and peace through its fellowships of business, professional and community leaders.
The Belleair Rotary Club meets every Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at the Belleair Country Club, 1 Country Club Ln.
