Woman’s club arts, craft show — a Christmas time tradition

— The GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club and the City of Clearwater plans for the 38th Annual Christmas Under the Oaks Arts and Crafts Show, which will feature more than 150 artists, craft specialists and food vendors.

The proceeds from this holiday season opener, which has produced $420,000 since 1976, has been given back to the community in the form of grants and scholarships.

Beneficiaries have included: Brookwood Florida, Inc.; Clothes to Kids, Inc.; Gulfcoast Dental Outreach, Inc.; Random Acts of Flowers; Science Center of Pinellas, Inc.; Suncoast Voices for Children Foundation, Inc.; Wheelchairs 4 Kids, Inc.; Haven of RCS Domestic Violence Center; Women on the Way; Operation Smile; Relay for Life; Safety Harbor Neighborhood Family Center; Coastal Clean-Up; Tampa Bay Watch; Honeymoon Island; Canine Companions; Boley Center; Humane Society; Sew Much Comfort; and many local school projects.

This year’s event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9 at Coachman Park, overlooking Clearwater Harbor.

Shoppers will find fine arts and craft items that fit any budget will include handcrafted quilts, blown glass items, country crafts, floral arrangements, ceramics, pottery, jewelry in sterling and crystal and holiday ornaments.

The GFWC North Pinellas Woman’s Club Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization, is affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Club International, the largest volunteer women’s organization with more than 100,000 members.

The local club sponsors the GFWC Clearwater Juniorettes, a service organization for teens in grades 9-12 and supports programs in education, the arts, conservation, and healthy lifestyles and advocates for the elderly and disabled, and issues related to women, children, and families.
