Peace Memorial concert series opens with Tarpon Springs Jazz Ensemble

CLEARWTER – The Peace Memorial Concert series “Jazz and More” will open Sunday with a 3 p.m., performance by the Jazz Ensemble of the Tarpon Springs Leadership Conservatory for the Arts at the Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 110 S. Ft. Harrison Ave.
 
Under the direction of Christopher M. De León, the Jazz Ensemble performs year round at a variety of school and community events. This ensemble performs the true American art form, Jazz. The styles of music ranges from big band, swing, bebop, funk, and rock. Students are exposed to music from 1900 to present time, and learn basic improvisation skills. The Jazz ensemble has received straight superior ratings at every FBA Jazz District Festival since 1994.
 
In 2007 and 2008, members of the Jazz Ensemble were invited to perform at the University of North Texas Jazz Festival, a prestigious national event. In 2009 and 2010 the ensemble was selected to perform at the renowned Savannah Music Festival.
 
Tickets are not required. An offering of $5 is suggested. Seating is first come, first served. Doors open at 2:30. Following the concert, a light reception in the fellowship hall will be held.
