Chapel plans annual beach walk, breakfast

CLEARWATER BEACH — The Fifth Annual Chapel-By-The-Sea Beach Walk, featuring a stroll along Clearwater Beach followed by a pancake breakfast, starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Palm Pavilion, 18 Bay Esplanade.

The event supports the Religious Community Services Food Bank, and participants are encouraged to bring nonperishable food donations. The event begins with coffee and snacks at the Palm Pavilion at 7:30 a.m. before the two-mile walk along the beach to the Hyatt Hotel and back to Chapel-By-The-Sea, where pancakes will be served.

All participants will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag of favors donated by Clearwater Beach merchants. In addition, there will be a silent auction during breakfast. Registration fees are $20 for adults, $10 for children (ages 6-18) and free for children younger than 6.

Register at the church, 54 Bay Esplanade, at www.chapelbythesea.net or the morning of the walk. Those who want to attend the breakfast only pay $8.

Last year's walk generated food and donations of more than $10,000 for RCS. The agency provides food, shelter, safety and clothing to more than 35,000 Pinellas County residents during the year.

“This is a great way to start the year with exercise, a great breakfast and by supporting a worthy community organization,” Fred Bickel, a member of the beach walk committee, said in a news release.
